Poetry Days and Book Weeks, key-stages 1 and 2, years 1 to 6. This is usually a performance followed by writing workshops in year groups.
Caribbean days
Enjoy the flavour of the Caribbean with the poet's experience of living in Jamaica. Dance to reggae, taste and smell tropical fruit, join in Anita's performance. Learn about the coral reef and coconut trees. What happens during a hurricane? Finish with a class rap and carnival 'Jump up'.

How we used to live - 1940s-60s
What games did we play in th street or playground? What was rationing? What did we do before TV? What was rock and roll? Who was Elvis Presley? What was a greengrocer, fishmonger, butcher? What were gobstoppers, sherbet dabs, slab toffee and Kali? Did your granddad read The Eagle, Dandy or Beano? Or did grandma have the Girl, School Friend, or Girl's Crystal comics? What happened on Coronation day?
Themed days
Eg. Animals, colour, fruit, space, seasons, festivals, or ideas connected to the present curriculum.
